Are we a doubting Thomas

A MOMENT WITH GOD, A DAILY WALK IN THE WORD

Start your day with the Lord in prayer. There is a refreshing when we spend time in the presence of the Lord. God wants to have a conversation with us. Think about that. The true and living God wants to talk to you about your concerns. Listen to what He has to say.

I find it interesting that Thomas became known as the doubting Thomas, or the disciple who doubted, when through out Jesus ministry, He had to deal with all of His disciples unbelief. When He calmed the sea; He said; “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith” (Mat. 8:26). When He walked on the water, he said to Peter; “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Mat. 14:31). The disciples witnessed many miracles, but yet their faith was small.

When he was approached by the man who had a son who was demon possessed, and said to Jesus; “I brought my son to your disciples for help, but they could do nothing.” Jesus cast out the demon, but afterwards, the disciples asked Him why they could not drive out the demon, and He told them it was because of their lack of faith. They had been given the authority to drive out the demon, but they failed because of the lack of faith.

The disciples were excited about seeing Jesus, after he was resurrected from the dead.  Thomas was not with the others when Jesus came.  They told him, “We have seen the Lord!”  But he replied, “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side.”  (John 20:24-25, NLT).  (How many times have we been like Thomas, and said; “I won’t believe it until I see It)?

Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them.  The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them.  He said, “Peace be with you.”  Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands.  Put your hand into the wound in my side.  Do not be unbelieving, but believe.”

After this experience, he began to trust and believe.  Thomas wanted to believe in the first place but was just honestly searching for the truth.  When Jesus showed up, his doubts were gone.  Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me.  Blessed are those who haven’t seen me and believe anyway.”  (John 20:29, NLT).

Faith is the substance of the things hoped for (Heb. 11:1), Faith is the key that unlocks the door of  God’s supply room. Believe that God truly wants to meet your need. Reach out to him in faith and receive.

Wallowing in unbelief is displeasing to the Lord (Heb. 11:6).  If you are wrestling with doubt about anything today, be honest and  ask God to help you with your unbelief. Search the scriptures, and see what God says He will do for you, and stop doubting! “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Do not be wise in your own eyes…” (Pro. 3:5-7). Faith is our assurance. The essence of faith consists in believing and receiving what God has revealed in His word.

Today’s Scriptures: You believe because you have seen me.  Blessed are those who haven’t seen me and believe anyway  (John 20:29, NLT).

For assuredly He does not give help to Angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham (Hebrews 2:16).

Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in the time of need (Heb. 4:16).

Faith is the confidence that we have before Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, in whatever we ask, we know that we have the request which we asked from Him (1 John 5:14-15).

Today’s Thoughts: Why do we doubt, when God has said to trust in Him with all of our hearts? When we doubt, we block the blessings of God.  Go before God with confidence
and receive help in time of need.
